What is an HMO?
Saturday, 13 March 2010 00:00

People might don’t know, but as soon as you have 2 people not related in a property (even 1 bedroom flat), the property becomes an HMO (house multiple occupation). In England, if you have usually a house with more than 2 storeys, and more than 5 people, you need to be licensed to rent the property to several people. Not all properties have to be licensed, it depends on your local council too,

and some are more flexible than others. But a property should never have more than 5 people permanently living inside, if you have only a kitchen and a bathroom, so make sure you know where you get in.
